Backup and restore
Export your reminders to a file you control — the safety net for Free and Lifetime users.
Last updated
If you don’t use cloud sync, your data lives only on your phone — so export a backup now and then. A lost or broken phone should never mean losing your streaks.
Exporting
Settings → Export backup creates a single nudje-backup.ndjb file containing your
reminders, history, and settings, and hands it to the system file picker — save it to
iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Files, or anywhere you like. The file goes wherever you
choose; it never touches our servers.
An optional passphrase encrypts the backup (Argon2id + XChaCha20-Poly1305). Without a passphrase, the file’s safety is the safety of wherever you store it — for most people that’s their already-protected cloud drive, which is a reasonable default.
Restoring
Settings → Import backup on any phone — iPhone or Android, the format is identical — reads the file and merges it with what’s on the device: for any reminder that exists in both places, the newer version wins. Restoring on a fresh install simply brings everything back.
Backup vs. cloud sync
| Backup file | Nudje+ cloud sync | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free, all tiers | Subscription |
| Effort | Manual, when you remember | Automatic, continuous |
| Multi-device | Manual transfer | Live on all devices |
| Where data lives | A file you control | End-to-end encrypted on our servers |
| Cross-platform | ✓ iPhone ↔ Android | ✓ iPhone ↔ Android |
Lifetime buyers: this is your safety net — the Local tier deliberately has no cloud component, so a periodic export is worth the ten seconds it takes.
