Troubleshooting

Reminders not firing? Sounds wrong? The fixes, ranked by how often they're the cause.

Last updated

“Reminders stopped arriving” (Android)

Ranked by likelihood:

  1. Battery optimization killed the app. Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo and others ship aggressive battery managers that silently stop background apps. Fix: Settings → Battery optimization in Nudje, and exempt the app (the independent dontkillmyapp.com documents each manufacturer’s behavior in detail). On Xiaomi also enable Autostart for Nudje. This is the cause in the overwhelming majority of cases.
  2. Notifications are off. Nudje’s Settings shows the live permission state with a Fix button that deep-links to the system page.
  3. Exact alarms not allowed (Android 12+). Also visible in Settings → Permissions, with a Fix link. Without it reminders still arrive, just less precisely.
  4. The app was force-stopped. A force-stopped app can’t schedule anything until it’s opened again. Open Nudje once and the schedule rebuilds automatically.

”Reminders stopped arriving” (iPhone)

  1. Notifications are off or set to Scheduled Summary. Nudje’s reminders are Time-Sensitive; check Settings → Notifications → Nudje and allow Time-Sensitive notifications.
  2. A Focus mode is filtering them. Allow Nudje (or Time-Sensitive notifications) in your Focus configuration.
  3. You haven’t opened the app in a long time. iPhone limits how many notifications an app can pre-schedule, so Nudje tops up the queue every time it opens (and in background refresh). If the app has been closed for weeks, open it — the schedule refills instantly.

”Escalation doesn’t seem to escalate” (iPhone)

That’s the platform rule, not a bug: iPhone bakes a notification’s sound in at scheduling time, so the firmer levels apply after the app refreshes — see How escalation works. On Android, escalation is real-time.

”The sound is wrong / silent”

  • Check the reminder’s sound set and level preview in its edit screen.
  • Android: notification channels control sound per level — if you changed a channel’s sound in system settings, that wins. Long-press a Nudje notification → settings to inspect.
  • Quiet hours force the gentle tone by design.

”I lost my recovery code”

If your device still has its keys (you’re signed in and syncing), sign out and set up again to mint a fresh code. If the device is gone and you have no code: the data cannot be recovered — by us or anyone. That’s the zero-knowledge trade-off; it’s what makes the privacy promise real. Local backup files (Settings → Export) are independent of the recovery code.

Still stuck?

Settings → Help & feedback in the app sends us a message (attach anonymous device info if you like), or write to support@nudje.app — we read everything.
